Should Apple make it’s own TV?

In my last post I slated Apple for one of it’s lunatic fringe iPhone apps, but this time I want to know if anybody else sees a potentially huge and lucrative gap for Apple TV?

It’s not so much the buzz around the sexy, uber expensive hardware and the fact that it will link your iPhone, iTouch and iPod to the TV, it’s about the thought of all those budding directors and go-for-it brands out there that could be eyeing up the idea of producing content. The iPhone was the test bed for Application designers to launch their careers through the AppStore so why not AppTVstore? Crazy idea? In my view the more crazy the idea the more likely it is to happen.

The potential is mind blowing. Imagine being able to watch the Apple channel, interact with your iPhone, get instant feedback both ways, order and buy stuff you don’t need just to piss next door off, download vouchers for instore redemption etc. What got me thinking about this was an article I read, you can check it out on http://3.ly/MMz

The article is about the hardware but that’s only half the story and the other half didn’t get a mention.

Just think about it: channels devoted to Apple TV soaps, movies, news and entertainment uploaded to a central Apple server, screened for content and then delivered to your Apple TV Channel. For a brands’ eye view think NikeTimeOut, Coke Happy Days at the Factory, Fanta Fun Hour, Red Bull Reality, Virgin Galactic-Get Lost in Space (only kidding!), but you get the idea.

I’m going to explore this more as I can see $ signs. What do you think?
